What I Know About Heating Elements

Actually, I know very little about heating elements, and especially industrial related heating elements, but I just got a job developing a website for a company that sells them.

Yep, I took on a new job on April first with a company called ProTherm in Hermitage, TN.

What about Laptop Drop? Well, I downsized it a bit and went mobile. Now, it’s downsized more and it’s limited to a part time venture. I am not missing it, as I love this new job.

So, if you need industrial heating elements, be sure to check out HeatingElementsPlus.com and they will be more than happy to assist you with purchasing and technical questions.

I will post more about my new job later. I just wanted to do a quick update since it’s been a while since my last post.

Out Of Business, but Not Out

laptop repair centerSince I started blogging again, one thing I have focused on is simplifying my life, and making more time to enjoy it.

After cleaning out the house, I have moved my focus to my business. I own a laptop and computer repair business called Laptop Drop and we have a location in Nashville, TN. One of the problems of being self-employed, without employees to help out, is that I have to be at the shop six days a week. I guess you can say I own my own job instead of owning a business.

I started researching how other solopreneurs cope with the mundane tasks of running a business on their own, and time management was the main rule they adhered to. With that I decided to look at our business model and determine how I can make this work and have time for my life.

I looked into some of the other businesses that offer the same service that I do and one thing that stood out was they market “on-site” tech support instead of their brick and mortar location. That’s when I decided to close the office in town, which cuts out my daily commute, and frees me from having to sit in the shop all day. Now I will go on location to do the work, but only when  customer calls. Read the rest of this entry »

I Chose Minimalism

zenI like to think of myself as a good husband, especially since we have been married for over twenty years, so I must be doing something right. Right? The reason I bring this up, as it’s the introduction to why I decided to live a minimalistic lifestyle. This had nothing to do with the quality of my marriage, but it was bothering me that I had started snapping at my wife for obviously ridiculous reasons. It then hit me that I have always had a small chip on my shoulder, so I was wondering why I was so angry.

After doing some reading I determined that my anger stems from me trying too hard for people to like me. On the outside, I always appeared as if I could care less what people thought of me, but that was the farthest thing from the truth. During my research I found that people who try too hard for acceptance, generally get angry inside because they don’t get the response or outcome from doing so much to please others.

Finally, I realized that you can’t make other people like you, or pretty much do anything really, so I decided to scale back and focus on what makes me happy. I was surprised that I had a lot of hobbies and club activities that I didn’t really need or care for. Then I started applying this to everything in my home. I had things I purchased to show off, but then realized nobody really cared what I had.

Then I had the urge to get rid of all of the things I didn’t use. I had so much clutter in the house, and it was making me disgusted with the stuff I was finding that we never use. I started looking on line about clearing out clutter and organizing just to find that I didn’t want to simply move stuff around, as I wanted it out of my life. Read the rest of this entry »

No More Cokes For Me

no-more-cokesI have given up drinking soft drinks and other sugary beverages. I know most of you are either saying good for you, or that’s not such a big deal. Considering that I was drinking 5-7 cokes a day would be a big deal. Now I am only drinking water to clean out my system. I may drink coffee or tea, but for the moment, it’s water only.

I decided to make some improvements in my life and one of them was losing a few pounds. I was researching weight loss and the subject of cokes and diet cokes came up. I don’t typically eat a lot, but the amount I do eat is not good things I should be fueling my body with. Cokes have a lot of calories and looking over what I was consuming on an average day, it scared me how much I was drinking.

I also read an article discussing how corn syrup used to sweeten drinks blocks the receptors that tell you when you’re full, so people just keep shoveling in the food to fill up. I can say that since I stopped drinking cokes, I lost almost 20 pounds in just five weeks.

Why don’t I just drink diet cokes? Well, I don’t feel comfortable ingesting artificial sweeteners. I have never trusted those little pink and yellow packets, even though I had at one time. Now I refuse to use them. If I want to sweeten my coffee or tea, I will use real sugar. I know people say sugar is just as bad, but at least it’s a natural ingredient.

Funny thing since I cut out the soft drinks is that my caffeine addiction seems to be subsiding. I haven’t even wanted coffee, so I pretty much stopped drinking it as well. I drink water all day long and an occasional glass of milk in the evening. I am now thinking about getting a juicer for some healthy drink alternatives, but for now I am fine with water.

Now I am losing weight without any special diet plan, and I sleep so much better at night. I have even found that I look forward to going to bed and find myself going to bed earlier. One other benefit has been the money I am saving, since I am not purchasing all of those soft drinks.

Lazy Monday Rant

puppy-love

Today I am feeling empty, but not in a bad way. There is nothing consuming my mind at the moment. Just sitting at my desk daydreaming when I should be working. I just can’t wrap my mind around anything. It’s Monday and it is cold and raining outside, so I am just existing.

I am not sure why I have these days, but sometimes I like to just shut down and unwind. Most people need a good book, but I can be content with just my thoughts.

I brought Hobson, our adopted pit bull to work with me, just like every day and he’s sleeping on the floor. His snoring his hypnotizing and relaxing. I have decided not to play any music in the office today, but instead just sit here and melt into this comfortable office chair.

Funny thing that just occurred to me is that you probably don’t care what I am doing and who’s going to read this any way? Not that I don’t think my life is interesting to anyone, but I just wanted to type my thoughts. Maybe I will copy and paste this into my blog that I recently started to update. It’s really sad to have a blog that is never updated, but I just haven’t been motivated lately. I do have some ideas for what I want to discuss, but life always distracts me. No time for God

ignoring

After the terrible Sandy Hook murders I watched in horror, with the rest of America – as if looking, waiting for some hidden answer to be revealed. I saw a multitude of different explanations on Facebook, Twitter, CNN and Fox – but not one person could provide a rational answer to an irrational situation. I saw multitudes of posts proclaiming that God was not welcome in our schools and what did we expect?

I nodded in agreement at these statements and discussed it with friends and family – the same as everyone else. God is not welcome in our schools. As I was in my car headed to work one morning – praying to God Almighty – my phone rang and I answered. At that moment it hit me and it hit me hard. Read the rest of this entry »

I Could Have Been Arrested In Mexico

Mexican-JailWhen I go out in public, I am always paranoid around crowds. It seems that I am always watching everyone anticipating that something is going to happen. Even when we dine in a restaurant, I have to be seated facing the crowd, and when I am walking around people I am always patting my pockets reassuring myself that I still have my wallet.Several years ago while vacationing in Mexico, I was warned by our travel agent to watch out for pick pockets and purse snatchers. I didn’t have to be warned, but it was nice having someone besides myself confirming my suspicions. Then again, she was just trying to sell us travel insurance. One evening we were having dinner in town, away from the security of being at an all-inclusive resort, so I was on high alert. I didn’t even allow my wife to bring her purse and I carried our spending money in my front pocket with my wallet safe and secure back in the safe in our room. Read the rest of this entry »

Finally, A Church For Us

Global Vision Bible Church

Since our church split and merged with another church, I have been on an on again, off again, search for a new place to worship. That may sound like I’ve been busy, but it’s the furthest thing from the truth.

You see, I seem to practice an off and on relationship with God. So, every time I visited a potential church, I would pick it apart and find some reason not to go back. We went through quite a few, and the one’s we did enjoy, we never made friends there, so we kept moving on. Actually, moving so much that we stopped looking.

Ok, so we covered the bad, so let’s share some good news.

A few weeks ago, I stopped watching TV and started meditating and praying more. I decided I wanted to go back to church, so a Google search offered me several in our area to check out. I found one called Global Vision and it was intriguing to me, as it didn’t have a denomination listed. The site was nice and informative, but then I started wondering how non-denominational they were. Then I found myself picking them apart before even stepping through their doors. Then God spoke to me and I found myself convicted. Read the rest of this entry »

Life Update

Just wanted to take a moment and update the blog, since it’s been over a year since our last post, just to let you know what we are up to now. You’ll also notice we changed the look and feel of the site.

Well, I got laid off from the dead end job that I complained about a few rants back, but the company called me back and offered to pay me as a sub-contractor to maintain their websites, so that worked out great. For the most part, they email me changes and I do daily maintenance on the site. I spend the rest of the day cooking and playing with the dogs, unless I get a call.

I am also in the process of starting another business, called Laptop Drop, and it’s going to be an on-site laptop and computer repair service. I rented a building, but decided I would rather be on call, so I can work from home. So, we will be scrapping the office space this February.

I have also decided to focus on blogging more and shying away from the mainstream social media sites like FaceBook and such, so bookmark our site and check back soon. I will explain more on this in my next post.

Thanks for checking in on us.

Don’t Be a Zombie

Controlled zombieBefore you read this article, I want you to sit and think about where you are. Not so much if you’re at work, home, or hopefully not while driving in your car. Maybe think a little bit about your financial situation, as we may touch a bit on that. Think about being inside yourself.

Now, make sure the television and radio are turned off. You need to be in a quiet and relaxed environment, as I want you to let the world around you fade.

You are a human being. You were created and you have a purpose, but it’s not what the world has led you to believe. You are an actual entity that has been bred in captivity of consumerism and greed. You are entitled with rights and freedoms, but are you really? If so, walk out of your house naked, quit your job or throw out all of your material possessions.

Truth is you cannot do any of those things. If you go out naked, your neighbors will think you’re a loon. If you quit your job, you can’t eat or have a roof over your head. Getting rid of everything is NOT an option; you love those items and have worked hard to obtain them!

So, forget about the above. I want you to think hard about where you are. You, like everyone else is in the same situation. Existing just to live and work to keep the machine going. Like livestock, we do the same routine every day, existing for the benefits of others. You’re doing it and generations before you did it, but now it’s a little more challenging. The world is more populated and you’ve fallen into the masses, so your voice has been silenced. Read the rest of this entry »
